This page is designed for those who have never owned a Maine Coon or other pedigree cat before. It contains some of the useful information I wish I’d been able to find when I was first looking!
“If you want a pet that’s independent, lives mainly outdoors or doesn’t need much attention, get a plant”.
Cats are sociable animals, and providing them with a good environment means a happy, healthy, long-lived cat.
Considering a kitten?
If you are away all day, and your kitten is going to live indoors, please
consider two kittens rather than one! A cat confined to the house all
day with no company will lead a boring, potentially miserable life. If
you don’t want two pedigree cats, consider another cat from a rescue
centre (the rescue centre personnel will be able to advise you which of
their cats may be suited to a life indoors). Most kittens and cats, from
different breeds and litters, will adapt to one another.
